Traditional Chinese Medicine & Five Element Acupuncture
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is thought to have originated thousands of years ago when pressure therapies, similar to acupuncture, were practiced by the Chinese as a preventative medicine. The earliest recording of what is thought to be the origins of reflexology is an Egyptian tomb drawing dated 2330 BC, which illustrates a person appearing to be massaging the soles of the feet of another person.
The link between the ancient art of foot massage and the modern techniques used today, is the long-established principle that there are energy zones running throughout the body and reflex areas in the feet mirror the organs, glands and corresponding parts of the body.
How does Reflexology work?
Reflexology is a deeply relaxing, non-invasive treatment which works at a physical and emotional level, helping the body to regain its natural balance promoting a sense of inner calm and wellbeing.

By applying direct pressure to the feet, reflexologists can detect imbalances which may be causing disharmony within the body - by unblocking these reflexes, homeostasis is restored and symptoms may improve.

What to expect?
In your first reflexology session, we'll start with an initial consultation to gather information regarding your health, lifestyle and medical history, which will be followed by your first reflexology treatment. The need for further treatment depends on your personal circumstances, however chronic or specific conditions usually need a course of reflexology on a weekly or fortnightly basis, before continuing with regular treatments on a monthly basis to maintain your health and wellbeing.

Anyone can enjoy a reflexology treatment, as it’s suitable for most adults, children and babies alike – is a very easy therapy to receive; depending on the type of reflexology, the most clothing that will have to be removed for a treatment to take place will be your socks and shoes.
